The Information and Resource Center of Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute carries out its activities in accordance with Resolution No. 552 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 30, 2022. Resolution.
The Information and Resource Center performs tasks aimed at conducting spiritual and educational activities, ensuring wide access to literature that facilitates the acquisition of professional knowledge; providing timely services to faculty members, staff, and students; organizing and supervising information activities, exhibitions, showcases, and other effective forms of book promotion; carrying out educational work within the community in cooperation with public organizations; and assisting in improving the professional qualifications of employees.
General book collection of the IRC:
The total book collection comprises 21,160 titles in 139,820 copies.
Of these, educational literature accounts for 9,621 titles in 96,841 copies;
- including textbooks — 6,040 titles in 51,751 copies;
- teaching aids — 3,581 titles in 45,090 copies;
- scientific literature — 6,452 titles in 22,198 copies;
- fiction literature — 1,936 titles in 5,713 copies;
- foreign literature — 159 titles in 1,025 copies;
- other types of literature — 2,980 titles in 13,998 copies;
- Braille literature — 12 titles in 45 copies.
Currently, work is underway to digitize educational and scientific literature from the IRC collection by scanning and converting it into electronic format. Through this process, the collection is being fully inventoried and its electronic version is being created. The Uzbek- and Tajik-language collections have been registered and digitized at 100%. At present, 85–90% of the Russian-language collection has been registered and digitized.
Throughout the year, textbooks, monographs, and methodological guides published by the institute’s faculty members were donated to the IRC collection, with official acceptance certificates issued. The donations included: 16 textbook titles in 129 copies, 38 teaching aid titles in 203 copies, 15 methodological guide titles in 68 copies, and 8 monograph titles in 36 copies.
Foreign-language literature obtained from higher education institutions of CIS countries, Malaysia, and Turkey by the institute’s faculty members and specialists during participation in conferences and professional development programs was transferred to the IRC collection based on official acts. This literature amounts to 180 titles in 180 copies. These resources are actively used by the institute’s specialists and researchers in their scientific work.
The IRC is developing its electronic catalog based on the IRBIS software system. Currently, the electronic catalog contains 8,614 titles, and this process is ongoing. Dissertations and abstracts defended at the Academic Council (17 dissertations and 30 abstracts) are accepted into the IRC collection and officially registered.
Membership registration of first-year students to the IRC has been carried out. According to official orders, the number of newly registered members totals 1,589 students. The total number of registered IRC users is 7,592, including: students — 7,218; faculty members — 262; staff — 69; master’s students — 41.
On the platform https://library.samdpi.uz/ , the number of registered users is 15,881, and the number of uploaded resources is 23,808.
https://unilibrary.uz is the unified electronic library information system of higher education and research institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which contains textbooks, monographs, dissertations, and scientific articles from all higher education institutions. Currently, the IRC of Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute has uploaded 16,174 resources to this platform.
In connection with the beginning of the academic year, exhibitions of newly acquired fiction and educational literature are regularly organized for faculty members, staff, and students.
During the current year, educational, scientific, fiction, and other literature totaling 954 titles in 9,741 copies were purchased for the IRC collection at a total cost of 450,910,360 UZS 04 tiyin. The total number of accepted books amounts to 978 titles in 10,326 copies.
The IRC regularly conducts thematic exhibitions, promotional activities, and educational events.
