History of the Department of Geography
According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 408 of June 30, 2021, Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute of Samarkand State University was established. 15 departments were formed within the institute. Among them: The Department of Natural Sciences was established. The department included 3 directions "Chemistry", "Biology", "Basics of Geography and Economic Knowledge" for the bachelor's degree, 3 directions "Methodology of teaching exact and natural sciences (chemistry, biology and geography)" for the master's degree.From August 6, 2021, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Physical Culture was established in connection with the establishment of Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute of Samarkand State University. Prof. B.T.Khaydarov was appointed dean to the faculty. The Department of Natural Sciences operated within the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Physical Culture. From August 10, 2021, F.A. Khamroeva worked as the head of the Department of Natural Sciences.
According to the decision of the Scientific Council of Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute (Report No. 9 of 2023), the Faculty of Natural Sciences was established. Department of Biology and Geography was opened in this faculty.
According to the decision of the Scientific Council of Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute (Report No. 2, September 7, 2024), the Biology and Geography directions within the Department of Biology and Geography were separated into separate departments.Then the Department of Geography was opened and Khamroeva Feruza Asrorovna, Ph.D , was appointed to the head of this department.
There are 10 professors and teachers working with the main staff unit in the Department of Geography, from this 1 is an associate professor, 3 are PhDs, and the remaining 6 are assistants. Currently, the scientific potential of the department is equal to 40%.
Until today, teachers of the department have created 3 educational manuals, 2 monographs, 4 educational-methodical manuals, collections and instructions, as well as about 40 scientific articles and more than 150 scientific popular articles were published.
A scientific club called "Followers of Beruni" is operating at the department.
