Historyof the Department of Geography

In accordance with Resolution No. 408 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 30, 2021, the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute of Samarkand State University was established. Within the structure of the institute, 15 departments were formed, including the Department of Natural Sciences.
The department offered three bachelor’s degree programs: Chemistry, Biology, and Geography and Fundamentals of Economic Knowledge, as well as three master’s degree programs in the methodology of teaching exact and natural sciences (chemistry, biology, and geography).
In connection with the establishment of the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute of Samarkand State University, the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences and Physical Culture was formed on August 6, 2021. The Department of Natural Sciences operated within this faculty. From August 10, 2021, the position of Head of the Department of Natural Sciences was held by F. A. Khamroeva.
In 2023, according to the decision of the Academic Council of the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute (Minutes No. 9, 2023), the Faculty of Natural Sciences was established. Within this faculty, the Department of Biology and Geography was opened.
In 2024, in accordance with the decision of the Academic Council of the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute (Minutes No. 2 dated September 7, 2024), after the educational programs in Biology and Geography were separated into independent departments, the Department of Geography was established. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Khamroeva Feruza Asrorovna was appointed as Head of the Department of Geography.
The Department of Geography employs 9 full-time faculty members, including 1 associate professor, 3 PhD holders, and 5 assistants. Currently, the scientific capacity of the department amounts to 44.4%.
To date, the department’s faculty members have published 3 textbooks, 4 monographs, 10 teaching and methodological manuals, approximately 150 scientific articles, and more than 250 popular science publications.
A scientific student club titled “Followers of Beruni” operates under the auspices of the department.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor. Since 2021, she has been serving as Head of the Department at Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute.
In 2020, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation at the Academic Council of the National University of Uzbekistan entitled “Improving the Methodology of Teaching Physical Geography Disciplines in Higher Education Institutions Based on Media Technologies.”
Khamroeva Feruza Asrorovna is the author of more than 70 scientific articles and conference papers, 2 textbooks, 1 monograph, and 5 teaching and methodological manuals. For her significant contribution to the field of education, she was awarded the “Excellence in Public Education” honorary badge.
