Uzbekistan–Korea Universities: Cooperation in Education and Science Enters a New Stage

During the official visit of the delegation of Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute, headed by Rector, Professor Shahzoda Negmatova, to the Republic of Korea, a series of meetings were held with leading higher education institutions, resulting in agreements aimed at advancing cooperation in teacher education, scientific research, and academic exchange.

As part of the visit, the delegation held talks with representatives of Seoul National University (SNU), the International Graduate School of Language Education (IGSLE), and the University of Utah Asia Campus.

At Seoul National University, a meeting was held with Professor June-Jeong Lee, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. The discussions focused on enhancing the quality of teacher education, establishing academic mobility opportunities for faculty members and students, conducting joint research, and organizing international academic seminars and conferences.

One of the key outcomes of the meeting was an agreement to allocate a dedicated quota and scholarships for three employees of Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute to undertake research internships at Seoul National University. This will provide new opportunities for expanding international experience and academic exchange among the Institute’s faculty and research staff.

The delegation also visited the SNU Day Care Center and familiarized itself with its activities. Particular attention was given to the integration of early childhood education, higher education, and practical training, as well as the organization of practical sessions for university students.

During the meeting with Hyunkee Ahn, President of IGSLE, the parties discussed the initial selection process for the 1+1 joint master’s degree program established between Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute and IGSLE. The meeting also addressed the expansion of cooperation in faculty exchange, scientific research, doctoral education, and the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in language education.

At the University of Utah Asia Campus in South Korea, discussions focused on potential cooperation in teacher training for mathematics, physics, chemistry, and other science-related fields, as well as artificial intelligence, engineering, inclusive education, and student exchange programs. The delegation also explored approaches to organizing the educational process and competency-based learning.

Thus, during the visit, promising areas of cooperation were discussed with three foreign higher education institutions, with new opportunities identified in 1+1 joint master’s programs, academic mobility, scientific research, and faculty exchange. One of the most significant practical outcomes was the agreement to provide a quota and scholarships for three Institute employees to undertake research internships at Seoul National University.

The agreements reached during the official visit to the Republic of Korea are aimed at expanding Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute’s international partnerships, strengthening international academic exchange among faculty members, increasing opportunities for students to access international education, and introducing advanced pedagogical practices into the Institute’s educational process.
