Department history
Based on Resolution No. 408 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 30, 2021, “On Measures to Organize the Activities of the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute under Samarkand State University,” the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute was established within Samarkand State University and became an independent institute in 2022. In accordance with Presidential Decree No. PF-73 dated April 28, 2025, the name of the Uzbekistan–Finland Pedagogical Institute was changed to Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute.
By Decision No. 9 of the Institute Council dated July 23, 2023, the Department of Chemistry was established within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The Head of the Department is Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Associate Professor Jamshid Shermatovich Bobojonov. The Department of Chemistry employs 17 academic staff members on a full-time basis and 5 faculty members on a part-time basis. Currently, the department consists of 2 professors, 7 associate professors, 2 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 1 senior lecturer, and 10 assistants.
The main research focus of the department is “Current Issues in Teaching Chemistry in the Educational Process.” Faculty members actively participate in the public and administrative activities of the institute. In particular, Professor Noryigit Hasanovich Musulmonov serves as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of SamSPI and is a member of the Institute Council, while Associate Professor (PhD) Jamshid Shermatovich Bobojonov is also a member of the Institute Council. Department members actively participate in events at the institutional, regional, and city levels.
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the department provides education and training to nearly one thousand students in full-time and evening study modes in the following academic programs: 60110800 – Chemistry (Bachelor’s degree), 60530100 – Chemistry (Bachelor’s degree), and 70530104 – Teaching Methodology of Exact and Natural Sciences (Chemistry, Master’s degree).
Currently, the department maintains extensive international cooperation with higher education institutions such as Kemerovo State University (Russian Federation), Atyrau University of Oil and Gas (Republic of Kazakhstan), and Afyon Kocatepe University (Republic of Türkiye). Four faculty members of the department completed professional development programs at foreign higher education institutions during 2023–2025. In addition, cooperation has been established with research institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Main Functions and Responsibilities of the Department:
- implementation of educational and instructional-methodological, spiritual-educational, scientific, and scientific-methodological activities;
- teaching students the theoretical foundations of chemistry, developing their ability to apply acquired knowledge in practice, as well as forming laboratory work skills;
- enhancing the functional literacy of future chemistry teachers;
- developing students’ logical and critical thinking skills;
- participation in projects proposed by chemical industry and manufacturing enterprises, as well as contributing scientific proposals aimed at solving existing problems;

Scientific Potential:
In the 2025–2026 academic year, the department employs 1 professor holding a Candidate of Sciences degree, 6 associate professors with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees, 2 Doctors of Philosophy (PhD), 1 senior lecturer, and 9 assistant lecturers. The scientific potential of the department amounts to 47.4%.

One scientific club operates under the department:
“Young Chemistry Researchers” club. Within this club, more than 30 students conduct scientific research under the guidance of faculty members within a mentor–mentee system, working on their own research and startup projects.

Mamirzayev Mashrab Abdumalikovich Senior Lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute. Since 2023, he has been working as a senior lecturer in the Chemistry Department at Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute. In 2007, he was awarded the "Ministerial Scholarship" from the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education, and in 2008, he won the "Student" Science Olympiad. As part of his research, he conducts research on the topic "Study of the technology for producing mesoporous carbon from methane using catalysts obtained from local raw materials." M. Mamirzayev is the author of more than 55 scientific articles, 16 instructional and methodological works, 6 study guides, and 5 monographs. |
