About the Faculty of Natural Sciences
According to the resolution no. 408 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated June 30, 2021, the Samarkand State University – Uzbekistan-Finland Pedagogical Institute consisted of 5 faculties. In particular, the “Exact and Natural Sciences and Physical Culture” faculty initially consisted of 4 departments: Department of Precise Sciences, Department of Natural Sciences, Department of Physical Culture Theory and Methodology, and Department of Sports Teaching Methodology.
In August 2023, in order to specialize educational programs, improve the quality of training in natural sciences, and optimize the organizational structure of the institute, the faculty was reorganized. The faculty of natural sciences was established as an independent faculty. During the initial period, candidate of technical sciences, professor Musulmonov Noryigit Hasanovich, was appointed as the dean. Under his leadership, the faculty’s regulatory documents were developed, the educational and methodological base was formed, and the educational process was stabilized.
According to the decree of the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan no. PF-73 dated April 28, 2025, the Uzbek-Finnish Pedagogical Institute was renamed the Samarkand State Pedagogical Institute. Currently, the faculty of natural sciences is headed by doctor of philosophy (PhD), associate professor Mirzayev Uktam Nuritdinovich. The faculty continues to improve the educational process, expand research activities, and support young personnel. Today, the faculty employs 64 full-time and 14 part-time professors. Although the distribution of scientific degrees and titles is relatively balanced, the proportion of professors and doctors of science is still low, and the number of young researchers is insufficient, which limits the stable growth of the faculty’s scientific potential.
The faculty collaborates effectively with institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including the Bioorganic Chemistry, Microbiology, Botany, Astronomy, and Ion-Plasma and Laser Technologies Institutes. Since its establishment, the faculty has paid special attention to developing international scientific and educational cooperation. Agreements and partnerships have been established with prestigious foreign universities and research centers, including:
